Meet Elsy Guevara one of Instagram’s top fashion influencers

I recently had the chance to interview Elsy Guevara a top fashion influencer on Instagram who has over 800k followers at 22 years old.

When Elsy was 17 years old she was able to land a marketing and merchandising job at Fashion Nova. Although she was the youngest employee in the company and working an important position, Elsy was not fully satisfied because she felt like she could accomplish more. While working at Fashion Nova, Elsy decided to partner up with her sister and start a small clothing business, OOTDFash. They started with 1 rack of clothing and over the next couple of years, filled up her sister’s boyfriend’s garage and eventually leased a large warehouse space for the business’s online activities. They have been very fortunate with the business and have a strong social media presence with over 1.1 million followers on instagram and is now a top Fashion brand in the social media market. The success of the business has allowed Elsy to pursue other ventures as well. This past year she decided to also launch a wholesale fashion company, Galifornia Wholesale. Due to receiving numerous messages daily from young women with the desire to pursue fashion businesses themselves, she decided to open the wholesale company with the intention of helping them bring the latest styles to their small boutiques.

Here are some questions I asked her:

If someone would want to emulate your career, what would you suggest are the most important things to do?

One of the most inspiring quotes I constantly remind myself of everyday is one by Jimmy Iovine. In summary, he mentions that when horses are racing in the race track trying to get to the finish line, they have blinders on. They have blinders on because if they look left or right, they might lose focus and looking may deter them from their end goal of crossing the finish line. As someone with aspirations and goals this can definitely be applied to anyone who wants to emulate a similar career as me. I recommend putting our blinders on and just going for it. If we lose focus and pay attention to what other people think, we might get discouraged and other people’s opinions and negativity can steer us away from our initial goals. Overall I would recommend staying focused, determined, patient, and always initiate.

What are the most exciting projects you are working on now?

At the moment, I am constantly working on improving OOTDFash with my sister but my main focus would definitely be expanding Galifornia Wholesale. I want to open a showroom in Downtown Los Angeles’s fashion district and continue helping women with small fashion boutiques sell the latest styles to their customers. Aside from the businesses, I am also working on expanding my social media presence with my best friend via Youtube and Instagram. I hope by also working on our YouTube channel and filming fun and positive videos, I am able to inspire young women to be themselves, pursue their goals, while at the same time having fun. I just want to make an impact on people, even if it means through a screen. It’s extremely important for me to be connected with my supporters, they are not just followers to me, they have also impacted my life extremely, and I couldn’t be more grateful for each and every one of them.
