Laura Damiano is the founder + creative director of Laura Damiano Designs. She creates one-of-a-kind stationery and branding that expresses her clients’ unique personalities and stories surrounding their events. Her mission is to be an integral part of her clients’ projects and make each design unique. Laura has won several prestigious awards during the 11 years she has been in business. One of them being selected *Gift & Stationery 40 Under 40* in the year 2018!

Making a Name In The Industry

Laura had to really put herself out there in order to make a name for herself in the industry. Between bridal shows, networking events, social events, conventions, massive advertising, etc. ,she would easily get lost in working 22 hour days, all whilst being broke most of the time.

Although, this just helped her become more determined to build a brand name for herself. Laura took the bad and hard days and converted them into the motivation that eventually helped build herself and her future. She learned you need to “work smarter, not harder”.

Obstacles Faced

Damiano has had to face many obstacles in order to reach the status of where she is now. She states how most of them were learning the trade, which she was incredibly interested in. Laura then mentions how others were learning customer service, legality aspects, where to advertise and with whom, vendors that would be compatible with the services she offers, all while she was taking her own route.

Laura expresses she is still learning every day, which in turn makes her business that much better. Being a single mom on top of all of this had its challenges as well. Damiano had to find the balance between work and motherhood to be the best she can, not only for herself, but for her son as well.

Overcoming Obstacles

Fortunately, Laura was able to overcome these obstacles by doing her own research. Trial and error, failing and winning, experimenting. These were all things she had to experience throughout the process to discover which outcomes are the best. She then mentions how some things were easy, which of course means that others were harder.

Laura adds on to this by commenting “All a constant learning curve — which makes my brand different.” Balancing a career and single motherhood was probably the biggest learning curve of all, but she did it and makes it work every single day.

Uniqueness Within The Industry

Laura is so unique within her niche because she does all custom, handmade work from start to finish. All of her designs are unique to each client and never reproduced. Resulting in every client having a one-of-a-kind design of their own. Laura expresses that there are no books to flip through, no cookie-cutter designs, and there is a lot more to “work with” when it comes to custom designs.
